چکیده

Some studied have suggested that serum uric acid predicts coronary heart disease (CHD) (2). However, prospective epidemiological studies have reported apparently conflicting findings, with several studies reporting positive associations only among women (3,4). Wheeler et al (5) reported that serum uric acid levels were unlikely to predict CHD, and this factor was unlikely to be a major determinant of the disease in the general population. Uric acid is an “antioxidant,” a free radical scavenger, and a chelator of transitional metal ions, which are converted to poorly reactive forms (6). Temporary hyperuricemia may afford the beneficial antioxidant effects of urate (7). Depending on its level, serum urate may exhibit protective and deleterious effects on stroke outcomes. More patients with low (<280 μM) and high (>410 μM) urate levels had poor functional outcomes (36% and 27%, respectively), compared to those with urate levels between 340 and 410 μM (14%) (8).

Serum uric acid in acute myocardial infarction.

BACKGROUND There is evidence that high uric acid is a negative prognostic factor in patients with mild to severe heart failure. A study showed a close correlation between serum uric acid concentration and Killip classification in patients of acute myocardial infarction. MATERIAL AND METHODS We studied 100 patients with acute myocardial infarction and 50 controls. Serum uric acid level was mea...

On-admission serum uric acid predicts outcomes after acute myocardial infarction: systematic review and meta-analysis of prognostic studies.

AIM To evaluate the prognostic value of serum uric acid (SUA) in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients. METHODS Systematic review and random-effects meta-analysis of prognostic studies assessing AMI outcomes (death, major adverse cardiac events, MACE) in relation to on-admission SUA. RESULTS Nine studies (7655 patients) were identified, 6 in the ST-segment elevation AMI patients treate...

prognostic value of serum uric acid level in patients with acute myocardial infarction

OBJECTIVES: To study the relationship between serum uric acid level and Killip classification in pateints with acute myocardial infarction (MI), and the use of serum uric acid levels as a marker of short-term mortality. METHODS: The present study involved 50 patients with acute MI and 50 controls. Serum uric acid level was measured on days 0, 3 and 7 of MI, and compared with all clinical parame...

Higher serum uric acid on admission is associated with higher short-term mortality and poorer long-term survival after myocardial infarction: retrospective prognostic study.

AIM To assess serum uric acid (SUA) levels determined on admission as a potential predictor of short-term mortality and long-term survival in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients. METHOD Data for this retrospective prognostic study were drawn from the patient database of the Varazdin County General Hospital in Varazdin, Croatia. We included consecutive patients with verified AMI admitte...

Association between Serum Uric Acid Level and Stenosis in Atherothrombotic Infarction

Background: Previous studies show that serum level of uric acid is significantly correlated with mortality and functional outcome in patients with ischemic stroke and according to some other studies, ischemic stroke is associated with stenosis of some stenoisis of somespecific brain vessels. The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of hyperuricemia and its associa...
